No emotions are emotions

I’ve been illustrating landscapes since I can only dream about traveling at the moment. I love the abstract depiction of the shapes and colors coming together seamlessly to create a scene. I put off drawing my first sneaker to gain practice, but also my lack of interest in recent releases. Does it feel like every retailer is having a sale or special run of some sort? It seems like the pandemic has taken its toll on spring and summer releases as most of us will continue to spend the season indoors.

I was chatting with my friend TJ who I met through social media and our love for sneakers. Although I haven’t picked up anything since the Melody Ehsani x Jordan Womens OG, TJ recently snagged the Joe FreshGoods x New Balance 992 No Emotions are Emotions. I’m not sure if it’s my recent fascination with New Balance (I fully credit Victoria Chiang), or the strikingly layered sole, that made me want to draw this sneaker. Perhaps it’s my recent usage of similar color variations in my artwork? Either way, I missed this sneaker upon release and now have the courtesy of staring at inflated resale prices ranging from $850-1,350 for my smaller women sizing. The original retail price was $280.
