John Geiger 003
In the wake of the COVID-19 invading the United States, I decided to dive into the archives to see what I haven’t already posted. I found myself staring at this drawing I created of the John Geiger 003. I remember when John posted a picture of the white colorway towards the end of 2019. With graduation on my mind, I hoped for an early release only to be kept waiting now in March 2020 for the anticipated drop.
I’ve been monitoring how companies are responding to the Coronavirus as it rapidly spreads as each day passes. Foot Locker announced that it would close its stores today moving forward, while I rushed to Nike on Sunday as the company announced it’d close all stores through the month. On the contrary, Adidas notified its employees it would remain open during the widespread outbreak; the company later decided to close all Adidas and Reebok stores March 17-29.
While major companies shutters its doors, it’s been incredibly difficult to watch small businesses. Many business leaders face a terrifying future in the coming months as consumers are likely to consume less than normal. So as a luxury owner, John Geiger shared his COVID-19 plans, which I found enlightening. He’s regularly spoken about his production taking place within the United States, which further explains his reasoning for his actions. John planned to halt production and continue with the original release of his Black Python 003; all for the health and concern for his team. Perhaps it’s my recently acquired MBA talking, or maybe my background in public relations and marketing, but I built a newfound respect for this business owner.
As I dug into my archives, I came across my illustration of the John Geiger 003 in Red/Volt/White/Black. This illustration was one of the first ones I created since I wanted to draw some of my most desired kicks, especially one with a higher price tag and a luxury appeal (think Maison Margiela x Reebok Tabi Instapump Fury). The Black Python 003 will release on March 27, but I’m still out here waiting for that clean white pair to release.
