A warehouse transformed to a cafe
In the 1960s, if you peeked into the Daerim Warehouse in Seongsu-dong, you would find factory workers surrounded by an industrial area. Today though, Koreans regularly flock to the building to meet friends for a cup of coffee and bowl of pasta.Lines of patient customers often surround the building on weekends. Why? Not only can you enjoy a brew accompanied by rosé pasta, but you can gaze at all the magnificent art inside. Paintings hang on walls, installations fill parts of the room and pieces hang from the ceiling. One of the owners even hand carved all of the long tables. His concept for the warehouse: a place for strangers to meet, hence the community shared spaces. The Daerim Warehouse easily became my favorite place to visit in Korea (despite sitting at a kids table). Go ahead and add it to your bucket list.
