A few doors from the New Museum

The final day of Otto Piene's exhibition in the Lower East Side quickly filled with young adults hoping to capture a picture on the third floor where a constellation of lights filled an entire dimly lit white room.Upon entering the gallery, visitors viewed Red Sundew 2, a red inflatable sculpture raising to more than 10 feet above the ground.As we walked through the venue, we saw a series of screen paintings, some viewable in normal lighting and a select few placed in a low-light room. The abstract paintings draw from Piene's expanding technique into new areas of research. Artwork filled the first two floors of Sperone Westwater.Everyone wanted to gaze at Lichtballete (lgiht ballets), which Piene projected light from electric hand lamps through raster screens and punctured cardboard. Lights danced across the floor, walls and ceiling turning on and off in a span of about five minutes.Throughout the day, I wore my new FENTY x Puma sneakers styled with my Opening Ceremony sweatshirt and a plain black dress from Forever 21.
