Synth Series 002.

Scrolling through Instagram when I'm bored has never proven me wrong. From upcoming clothing lines to local photographers, I always find new creativity in the DMV through exploring this social media platform.While I'm not a fan of Instagram's newest features, I still give props to the new methods of finding different users. My best find yet to date was Tolu Rafai's Instagram.[embed]https://instagram.com/p/5Dkq-BKqC-/?taken-by=tolu_r[/embed]This image is what intrigued me to look deeper into his work and his life. Immediately, I tagged Kevin because I knew he would appreciate the Synth Series as much as I did upon first glance.I took a chance and tweeted at Tolu because I wanted directions to find the abandoned warehouse. He quickly shared and I realized I couldn't make the time until a few days later. Sadness dawned upon me because I knew other outlets with huge following numbers such as A Creative DC or Design Boom would talk about the project and ruin my future experience.That's exactly what happened. Not to say that sharing the wealth of DC art is bad, it's amazing. I want DC to become bigger and better than ever, but I'm greedy. For once, I stumbled upon something great before the swarm. Yet I knew when I would show up to the site a few days later than expected, there would be other lurkers. Little did I know, everyone is mad disrespectful. It's not a certain age group or a general demographic; it's everyone (except one other photographer who seemed to be on the same respect game as us).They all want their pictures. #DoItForTheGram at large. Aside from rude visitors, the experience impresses anyone who walks onto the top floor of the building. With chalky grounds, random cinder blocks and the installation placed perfectly in the middle of the studio floor, the artwork holds unbelievable characteristics from every level.It's amazing what a string of yarn can do, and both Tolu and Khai Grubbs highlight the thin line perfectly. Their collaborative efforts bring the project's qualities together: movement, transparency, rhythm and more. Go ahead and strike one piece of yarn, then pluck another strand.
