Ditch the chopsticks for a Buredo 

Fusing a Mexican concept with Japanese elements, Buredo brings a new meaning to the word “buredo.”

Since Buredo opened, young adults continue to flock to the eat-and-go spot to try out a sushi burrito.

After countless Instagram posts from friends and noticeable positive publicity from restaurant visitors, I decided to try out he Pai Mei and the Beatrix an hour before the shop closed.

Buredo’s prices are expected of what someone might pay for sushi rolls at Harris Teeter, but the quality exceeds grocery-store finds, making it worth the buck.

It’s a small space and I can’t imagine what the lunch rush looks like in comparison with larger venues with similar set ups such as Chipotle or Sweetgreen. Yet at 7 p.m. there was no line, but all seats remained filled.

Customers can grab menus in the front or back of the station and the mural also displays the available options. Get in line and prepare to name your buredo of choice. The men quickly prepped, placed and rolled in a timely fashion.

Featured below is the making of the Pai Mei buredo, filled with salmon sashimi, vegetables and a sesame mayo sauce.

Everything tasted fresh from the outside in. The rice was soft as if it was made-to-order, the vegetables retained their crunch and the salmon tasted better than inside a roll because you can retain that sashimi flavor.

My biggest worry was the rice would overpower the buredo, but the shop clearly rationed the perfect layer so that the grains hold the entire roll completely.

It’s rolled in a hybrid sushi roll-Chipotle burrito rolling fashion. It reminds you of the famed venue, but in a healthier Asian format.


Bam! Look at all the color inside! My only trouble eating everything in one bite is similar to my issue when I eat Chipotle, several small bites all around, or one bite with only half the ingredients in each tasting. Yet, if you have a big mouth you can try stuffing the entire dish in one bite (it’s tasty and worth the try).

Below is the making of the Beatrix. Tasty yellowfin tuna and salmon sashimi fill the inside alongside seasoned cucumbers, pickled cabbage, onion and crunch. A small layer of Unagi sauce adds the perfect touch for your next bite.


Chatted with the friendly staff who knew exactly when the shop opened and seemed excited to be working after a long day. Shout out to the effort, happiness and worth ethic.

Overall, I had an amazing experience for DC’s first sushi-burrito shop. If I worked in DC, I would take full advantage of UberEats and try every buredo if possible. Till then, I guess I’ll have to stick with attempting to grab one every time I’m in the city. It’s the perfect meal for a working woman who doesn’t want a salad, and a man who’s looking to try something different. Either way buredo, I’ll be back. Maybe save me a seat?
